Kelman

Kelman 'The Happiest Man Alive'.

The first thing that strikes you about “The Happiest Man Alive” is singer/guitarist Wayne Gooderham’s voice. The first line of the song, being unaccompanied, perfectly showcases his deep, smooth and ever so slightly croaky tone that’s very reminiscent of The Dears’ Murray Lightburn. It transforms this tune from being merely a beautiful bittersweet goodbye-themed lament with added chimes into being a truly magical beautiful bittersweet goodbye-themed lament with added chimes. Second track “Undone” shows yet more loveliness and fragility, but lacks the spellbinding quality of the opener. The self-confessional heart-rendingness of Kelman may drag over a long player, but encapsulated in two songs of such gentle grace and charm, it could, for their few minutes’ duration, make you pretty damn happy too.
